Clear water in a vinyl liner pool in Omaha after a liner replacement by Olympic Pool & Spa

Vinyl pool liner replacement
in Omaha, NE.

A faded, wrinkled or leaking liner makes a sound pool look finished. A new custom-fit liner, set by the crew that builds vinyl pools on polymer walls, makes it look new for another decade.

Is It Time?

Liners don't fail all at once. They tell you first.

Vinyl is the most common inground pool surface in the Omaha metro, and it is the one we build with: a custom liner over polymer walls, sized to the Nebraska freeze. Liners wear from the top down. Sun and chemicals chalk the material above the waterline, the bead stiffens, and after ten or fifteen years a liner that still holds water can be one cold snap from a tear.

A replacement is not a cosmetic job. The pool is drained, the floor and walls are inspected and repaired, every fitting gets a new gasket, and the new liner is set under vacuum so it fits without wrinkles. Done right, it is the closest thing to a new pool without digging one.

  • Fading, chalking or a rough feel above the waterline
  • Wrinkles that come back after the water is adjusted
  • Water loss, or patches that will not hold
  • The liner pulling away from the track or a faceplate
  • Brittle, cracked vinyl at the steps or the skimmer
  • A liner more than ten years old on a pool you plan to keep

How It Goes

Measured to the pool, not to a catalog.

Every liner we install is cut for the actual pool, including the steps, the depth profile and every fitting.

1

Measure

Full A-B measurements of the pool, the slope and the deep end, plus every skimmer, return, light, main drain and step. The liner is ordered to those numbers.

2

Drain & Strip

The pool is pumped down, the old liner is removed, and the floor and polymer walls are inspected. Washouts and cracks in the base are repaired before anything new goes in.

3

Install

The new liner is hung in the bead track and set under vacuum so it pulls tight to the floor and corners. New gaskets go on every faceplate; the light and main drain are sealed.

4

Refill & Start

Water goes in, the fittings are cut and trimmed as the liner settles, the equipment restarts, and the water is balanced. We walk you through care for the first weeks.

🎨

Patterns & Thickness

Choose from the manufacturer's current patterns and gauges in the showroom. A heavier gauge and textured step material cost a little more and hold up longer in sun and cold.

🧱

Floor & Wall Repair

An empty pool is the only time the base can be fixed. We repair washed-out floor, foam the walls where it helps and square up the track before the liner goes in.

💡

Faceplates, Gaskets & Lights

Skimmer, returns, light niche, main drain and steps all get new gaskets and faceplates, the places most old liners leak.

Thickness, bead and pattern, in plain terms

Residential liners come in a standard gauge (about 20 mil) and a heavier one (27 to 28 mil); the heavier vinyl shrugs off sun and small punctures a little better and costs a little more, and textured step material is worth it on stairs. Inground pools take a beaded liner that snaps into a track under the coping; above-ground pools take beaded, overlap or J-hook liners depending on the wall and top rail. Pattern books for the current lines are in the showroom at 16902 Wright Plaza, and the water that fills the new liner comes from your hose while the vinyl settles into the corners.

Balanced water is what the new liner needs most in its first seasons. Free water testing at the counter and balancers on the shelf keep the vinyl from fading early. Liner replacements run across Omaha, Papillion, La Vista, Bellevue, Elkhorn, Gretna, Bennington, Ralston, Millard, Springfield, Waterloo and Council Bluffs.

FAQs

Pool liner replacement questions, answered.

How long does a vinyl pool liner last in Nebraska?

Most liners give ten to fifteen years here. Sun fades and stiffens the material above the waterline, freeze-thaw works on the bead and the fittings, and water that runs out of balance for a season or two shortens the life. A liner that is wrinkled, brittle at the top or losing water is usually past patching.

Can you patch a liner instead of replacing it?

Often, yes. Small tears and pinholes are patched under water, and a pulled faceplate gets a new gasket. We tell you honestly which one you need; leak detection comes first if the only symptom is water loss.

Does the pool have to be drained?

Yes. The pool is pumped down, the old liner comes out, the floor and walls are inspected and repaired, and the new liner is set with a vacuum so it sits wrinkle-free before the refill. Never drain a vinyl pool yourself and leave it empty; the structure needs the water.

How long does a liner replacement take?

From drain-down to swimming is usually a few days, weather permitting. Measuring and ordering the custom liner happens ahead of time, so the pool is only down for the removal, repairs, install and refill.

When is the best time to replace a liner?

Spring before opening or fall at closing, when the pool is already coming down. Fall measurements mean the liner is ordered over winter and installed first thing in spring, and it is the smart moment for a new pump, filter, heater or salt system while the pool is empty.

Do you replace above-ground pool liners?

Yes. Overlap, beaded and J-hook liners for above-ground pools, including the Splash Superpools we sell. Above-ground pools →

Where do you replace pool liners?

Omaha and the surrounding metro — Papillion, La Vista, Bellevue, Elkhorn, Gretna, Bennington, Fremont, Wahoo, Council Bluffs, and beyond.

What liner thickness should I choose?

Standard residential liners are about 20 mil; the heavier option is 27 to 28 mil. The heavier liner resists sun and small punctures a little better and costs a little more; textured step material is worth it on stairs. We show you both, and the current patterns, in the showroom.

Beaded, overlap or J-hook: which liner does my pool take?

Inground pools use a beaded liner that snaps into a track under the coping. Above-ground pools take beaded, overlap or J-hook liners depending on the wall and the top rail; a photo of the top rail tells us which. We measure before ordering either way.

Will a new liner fix my leak?

If the liner is the leak, yes: tears, pinholes and pulled fittings go with it, and every faceplate and gasket is renewed. If the leak is in a pipe or the skimmer body, a new liner will not stop it, which is why leak detection comes first when water loss is the only symptom.

Do you replace liners on pools you didn't build?

Yes, any vinyl inground or above-ground pool across the metro. The walls, base and fittings are inspected first, and anything the pool needs while it is empty goes into the one written estimate.

Give the pool another decade.
